wedding details

Here's what went on in our house this weekend: making a few pretty things for Adrian and Hannah's big day! I love making things for weddings.

I calligraphed some thank you tags:

We had made and stained the couple's initials to be hung at the venue - the ampersand, I wanted to keep. It looks just right on our porch.

We made little chalkboard tic-tac-toe sets as favors for the guests.

I painted a sign for a little boy to carry down the aisle:

This is my favorite, a signboard for the venue. I loved making this.
These were two notes they placed in the restrooms, cute:

Thank-you cards to the sponsors were placed in potted plants. Ina did the text layout and I did the lettering, 'cause we're a perfect team like that.

floral notes

I painted a few notecards as a thank you for a friend. I like my Mary Engelbreit-inspired doughnut flowers (actually it's cause I can't paint any other flowers but roses).

Painting on a small scale is really my favorite. It's probably what I'm best at. Tiny things.

inking

I like it when it gets blotchy and scratchy.

painting for a wedding

Here comes your bride.

as high as the sky

Some ink from last night. Pretty tempted to get this tattooed somewhere on me.

knots and crosses

I did a piece based on my friend Hannah's super cute song, Knots and Crosses.

masked bandits

Lately it's been chilly in the mornings and it makes me want to wear socks. But then it swiftly changes course and I am left wondering what happened to the cold chill and where all my tanktops have gone. Ah, weather. So fickle.

Here's a painting I did last week. I am so glad I took up my brush to paint something non-digital. I'd like to think I'm getting back into the swing of things.

This girl has secrets, but don't we all?

She's sitting in her temporary home, our living room. But she's ready to go have more adventures (aka she's totally for sale). Email me and let's talk.

stars

Kevin and I tried and tried to have dessert together, and our plans kept falling through. "We are star-crossed", I told him. And he said:

So I painted his words.
And then he answered me with this. (click it, it's starry)

birthday

Wishlisting. I can't believe I'm almost twenty-one. Could we stop the world for a moment, I want to get off.

the third month

I made a calendar.

The 8th is sparkly 'cause that's my birthday.

sneakers

Last Friday, we were at the Brown Bag Vintage and Crafts Market. It was the loveliest bazaar I've ever been to, with the nicest things for sale. I think one of the reasons I loved it so was because most of the people manning the booths had made everything themselves. I wanted to buy so many things! Please, support handmade, if you can.
Also, I had the chance to join the Keds painting workshop! Of course, when confronted with the actual shoe, I didn't know what to paint, and had a mild panic attack, since I always plan things like these so thoroughly beforehand. They ended up being Rob Ryan inspired. What can I say? I love that man.

Of course, being the indecisive little girl that I am, I may decide to paint over these. All that white is just too tempting.

Thanks so much to Katrina of Keds and to the Brown Bag Market for giving me the shoes! I've always wanted a pair. Now I'm going to go and skip around in them to break them in. Adieu!

valentine's day

I painted my first couple portrait commission. This is Nikki and Leo in Madrid. Nikki gave it to Leo as a Valentine gift. Heeh.

picking up the brushes

Sometimes I don't even know what I'm doing.

Inspired by Olivia Wilde's Golden Globe Marchesa dress. I'd love to wear a galaxy.

I am so full.

Food is the love of my life.

Next to, you know, watercolor paper and Lee Pace.

drawing

I've been reading Mistress Pat for the gazillionth time.

I love her.

I tried to digitally color her in, my, but it was hard.
And I suck at it.
But I shall practice.

A lot. Practice a lot.

things on strings

Linn, the awesomely awesome person who gave me my darling instax, requested a header for her blog. So I drew her this:

I colored it in on Paint, and that took ages. I wasn't happy with it though. So this morning I got up early, did a watercolor version, and then made this:

I like it so much better. I am so very in love with the way watercolors look on paper.

Here is part of the elaborate contraption I made for that whole dangling on strings thing. I got very tired.

I don't have a tripod, hence the books.

I also made a really short stop motion animation thing. It isn't quite done, so hold on to your horses.

Love,
me.
